Architectural Walk-Through
Professional Projects - Interactive 3D Animation

I made this architectural walk-through demo and tutorial while working at NaN Technologies B.V. It was meant to provide new users of the Blender web browser plug-in with an easy solution for turning their architectural models into interactive virtual-reality-style environments.

walkthrough_thumbFor the demo I modeled an interior environment with multiple light sources. Because diffuse lighting is viewpoint-independent it can be precalculated for real-time animation, so long as the lights and environment won't change during the animation. I used a radiosity solver (included in the Blender authoring environment) to calculate interreflected and direct light in the scene, giving a lighting solution with subtle variation, such as the way soft shadows collect in the corners.

You can read the original tutorial, which includes a template scene for Blender and a web page showing the example scene running in the Blender web plugin. The Blender software has changed a lot since this tutorial was written, so some of the details may be outdated, and I can't guarantee that the template still works correctly.

You can also download a 32-bit Windows executable of the demo in a .zip archive (848KB). Just unzip it anywhere you like and double-click walkthrough.exe.
